James E. Hohmann, CEO & President, Members Mutual Holding Company

James E. Hohmann

Mr. Hohmann is CEO and President of Members Mutual Holding Company, the parent of Fidelity Life Association. He is also a member of the Fidelity Life Board of Directors and is accountable for the overall performance of all affiliated companies.

He began his career as a life insurance actuary at a stock life insurance company. From there he went into consulting, first with Peat Marwick (now KPMG) and then Tillinghast, Towers Perrin (now Towers Watson), where he was Managing Principal of the Chicago life office.

After consulting, Mr. Hohmann returned to the company side of the life insurance industry and over the past 15 years has primarily served in the role of company president or CEO, including President of Conseco (now CNO Financial) and President and CEO of Allstate Financial.

Most recently, Mr. Hohmann was President and CEO of FBL Financial. In that role he delivered industry leading stock performance and the company was recognized by Fortune magazine in its list of the “100 Fastest Growing Companies” based on growth in revenue, earnings per share and total return to shareholders.

Mr. Hohmann is a graduate of Northwestern University and holds a MBA from the University of Chicago.

Jim Harkensee, President & Chief Operating Officer

Jim Harkensee

Mr. Harkensee has P&L responsibility and overall accountability for the performance and position of Fidelity Life. He oversees the company’s strategy and operations and engages with shared services areas to insure production efficiency, quality, service and cost effective management of resources.

Mr. Harkensee has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry in both actuarial science and direct marketing. He was formerly president of Zurich Direct. For nine years under his leadership, Zurich Direct grew to become one of the leading direct marketers of term life insurance in the United States, increasing first-year premiums from $1.3 million to over $36 million. Mr. Harkensee began his career at Bankers Life & Casualty, later joining Zurich Life, where he was promoted to chief actuary.

Mr. Harkensee is a graduate of the University of Illinois and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

John Buchanan, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Members Mutual Holding Company, the parent of Fidelity Life Association

John Buchanan

As strategic lead for the Law Department, Mr. Buchanan and his team provide advice and counsel to Members Mutual Holding Company’s various entities and business units, including Fidelity Life Association.

Mr. Buchanan began his career as a trial attorney with dozens of first chair jury trials and arbitrations. During his 20 year Allstate career, Mr. Buchanan he held various senior roles in the company’s legal department. Most recently, he served as Chief Counsel to Allstate’s Agency Operations team, and as Lead Counsel to Allstate’s President of the East Region. Earlier roles included leading Allstate’s marketing legal team. Mr. Buchanan has extensive legal experience in both property and casualty, and life insurance, as well as in direct marketing and ecommerce.

Mr. Buchanan served on the board of the NJ Life and Health Guaranty Fund and was actively involved with the ACLI, LICONY, MCCA and the ACC.

Mr. Buchanan is a graduate Northern Illinois University and the John Marshall Law School where he won the Fred F. Herzog Moot Court Competition and was a member of their Moot Court Council Honors Program.

Chris Kim, Chief Financial Officer

Chris Kim

Mr. Kim is responsible for Fidelity Life’s accounting and financial reporting activities directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with NAIC statutory accounting and U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.

He has over 20 years of experience in public accounting and controllership with a focus on life and property/casualty insurance companies. He has extensive experience in advising private and public companies on accounting and financial reporting matters related to capital raising activities and advising clients on complex accounting matters.

Prior to joining Fidelity Life, Mr. Kim was employed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP within its audit and transaction services practice in Chicago and New York. He also held the position of assistant controller with GE Insurance Solutions (now Swiss Re) driving global finance transformation projects.

Mr. Kim is a graduate of the University of Missouri and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).

Stefan Peter, Vice President, Operations and Underwriting

Stefan Peter

Mr. Peter has responsibility for the new business and customer service operations at Fidelity Life. His responsibilities include underwriting, new business processing, policy administration, agent support and compliance.

Mr. Peter has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry in both P&C and Life Insurance. He began his career with Zurich Financial Services in Switzerland, where he was responsible for implementation of global corporate information technology standards. He moved to the United States and served as Senior Vice President and Information Technology Officer at Zurich-Kemper Life, overseeing the information technology department of Zurich Direct. Prior to his current position, he held the position of AVP of Information Technology at Fidelity Life for several years where he developed and implemented point of sale and underwriting system capabilities.

Mr. Peter was educated at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) which is one of the leading international universities for technology and natural sciences.

Greg Roemelt, Chief Actuary

Greg Roemelt

Mr. Roemelt directs all of Fidelity Life’s actuarial functions, including actuarial risk management, product development, financial forecasting (including financial plan development in connection with strategic planning), financial statement reserves and other knowledge accruals under all regulatory accounting frameworks. He is also accountable for overall reserve adequacy and the determination of surplus adequacy, actuarial policies and procedures and oversees the performance and interpretation of various experience analysis.

He has over 33 years of experience in working as an actuary for both life insurance companies and actuarial consulting firms. He has extensive experience in many facets of actuarial work. A large portion of his experience has revolved around the development and use of all types of actuarial models, including the construction, assumption setting and validation of financial projection models.

Prior to joining Fidelity Life, Mr. Roemelt was a member of Athene Annuity’s Corporate Development team. Prior to Athene, he was an Actuarial Consultant with Towers Watson & Company, a global professional services firm.

Mr. Roemelt is a graduate of Drake University and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

Laura G. Zimmerman, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Laura G. Zimmerman

Ms. Zimmerman oversees Fidelity Life’s strategy and marketing areas with accountability for branding, communications, customer acquisition, marketing alliances, data management and predictive analytics. In her role, Ms. Zimmerman brings a consumer-focused approach to addressing everyday American’s life insurance needs.

Ms. Zimmerman has more than 25 years of experience in financial services marketing, strategy and business development, delivering organic growth and transformational change for several Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Fidelity Life, Ms. Zimmerman was Chief Marketing Officer for The Guardian Life Insurance Company of American’s Group and Worksite Business, where she also led enterprise brand strategy.

Previously, Ms. Zimmerman served as Managing Director, Head of Marketing and Product at Legg Mason Global Asset Management where she successfully repositioned the retail and institutional businesses. During her 13-year career with Allstate Insurance Company, Ms. Zimmerman held progressively senior positions including Chief Strategy Officer for the firm’s financial services division. Under her leadership, Allstate established its proprietary financial services business and entered the voluntary benefits market. Ms. Zimmerman began her career at American Express and Leo Burnett.

Ms. Zimmerman is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
